The University of Miami Emergency Notification Network (ENN) is the comprehensive communications solution that allows the University to quickly disseminate an urgent message through multiple communication mediums. It is important to note that no one communication system is capable of reaching everyone, everywhere, every time. Each method has its strengths, weaknesses, and limitations. As a result, the ENN utilizes multiple delivery methods to ensure a greater coverage of intended recipients, and redundancy in the event of failures, which many communication systems are prone. If there is a condition which significantly threatens the health and safety of persons on campus or impacts normal campus operations, university officials will warn the campus community using one or more of the following methods:
SMS Text Messages: By registering your cell phone number via CaneLink (students) or Workday (employees) you will receive emergency text messages alerting you to a current or imminent threat. Instructions on how to register your cell phone number can be found below.

We encourage you to add ENN as a contact on your cell phone and select a unique ringtone for ENN text messages which will always be sent from one of two short codes 226787 or 67283.
Parents and other family members may opt-in to receive ENN text messages by following the steps to receive text messages found here.
Voice Messages: By registering your cell phone number via CaneLink/Workday, you will receive emergency voice messages alerting you to a current or imminent threat. We encourage you to select a unique ringtone on your cell phone for ENN voice messages; which will always be received from the same number, 800-227-0354. Email: UM can quickly alert students, faculty, and staff of emergency conditions by sending an e-mail to your official @miami.edu email address.
Emergency Information Hotline: Official emergency information may also be accessed by calling 1-800-227-0354. Please keep in mind that this recording may take several minutes to update.
University of Miami Website Banners: During an emergency at the University of Miami, the main university website, and all corresponding pages will include prominent banners linking you to the ENN page for more detailed information.
Emergency Preparedness Webpage: Everything points to www.prepare.miami.edu if the ENN is activated. The Emergency Preparedness webpage is the official source for the most up to date emergency information and announcements. Within minutes, university officials will post details regarding the emergency, protective action recommendations, and official announcements regarding cancellations, closures, etc. This page will be available 24/7/365 with the latest information about any potential threats and links to preparedness information.
UMiami Smart Phone App: Official emergency guide information and the latest ENN alert may also be accessed via the emergency icon on the UMiami Smart Phone App. The app can be downloaded at www.miami.edu/mobile. If you do not have an app capable phone or you want to access the information directly from a mobile browser go to www.miami.edu/mobile/emergency.
Facebook: Like UMiami ENN at www.facebook.com/UMiamiENN. While this page will broadcast emergency alerts in the event of an incident, it is not intended to serve as a primary communication method.
Twitter: Follow UMiami ENN @UMiamiENN or www.twitter.com/UMiamiENN. While this page will broadcast emergency alerts in the event of an incident, it is not intended to serve as a primary communication method.
Really Simple Syndication (RSS) Feed: Anyone can receive emergency alerts on their computer by subscribing to ENN’s RSS feed. You can receive the alerts through your email client (Microsoft Outlook or Novell GroupWise), various news readers (My Yahoo, Google Reader, etc.) or your Internet browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, etc.). Campus Cable TV: ENN alerts are broadcast on air via the Campus Televideo cable system. If you are watching television on the Gables and Medical campuses, the alert will air on all television stations. Please note that emergency alerts are not aired via online broadcast streams.
Outdoor Warning Sirens: The Coral Gables campus has outdoor sirens that cover the Main Campus.

Digital Signage: ENN alerts are broadcast on the digital signage throughout the Student Activity Center and in the Gables One Tower GOT Spot.
WVUM 90.5 FM: Depending on the nature and severity of the emergency, ENN alerts can be broadcast on WVUM The Voice 90.5 FM campus radio station.
Local News: Depending on the nature and severity of the emergency, local news stations may carry live breaking news or periodic updates regarding an emergency on campus. Their websites may also carry live streaming video, video clips, or text updates.
Newspaper: Depending on the nature and severity of the emergency, the student and local newspapers may post breaking news or periodic updates regarding an emergency on campus on their website.
